Join Us: Sunday School

At St. John's United Church of Christ, children, pre-teens and teens go to church with their families in the sanctuary. And then after worship the whole family can participate in spiritual formation classes.

Nursery: Birth - Age 2

Our nursery is located upstairs and is staffed by energetic employees and volunteers. Your child will enjoy our toys, books, music, and wonderful care while you enjoy a worship service, bible study, or special event.

Worship Center One: Age 3 - Kindergarten

The focus of this class is familiarity with the basic stories of the Bible, and follows the rhythm of the church year. Your child will know what to expect each week and look forward to singing the songs and prayers with each other. The teacher acts out bible stories, parables, and liturgical action lessons with wooden figures, giving children the opportunity to use a hands on and a visual style of learning based on the Godly Play model. 2015-2016 teachers are Victoria Bradford and Tarah Tiedt, assisted by Everett Bradford-Smith.

Worship Center Two: 1st Grade - 3rd Grade

We call our class for 1st thru 3rd graders 'A Joyful Path.' Our spiritual values curriculum teaches children critical thinking, compassion, self awareness, respect, prayer, forgiveness, and many more life skills. The Bible stories and wisdom stories follow the path of Jesus. Children will acquire a God-within- all attitude that they will be able to apply in their every day life.  Christian Bileth and Sue Garza,, assisted by Kelly DeWald return to teach the 2015-2016 program year.

Bridge Class: 4th-6th Grade

Pre-teens in grades 4-6 take a deeper look at the stories of Jesus, survey the life and work of the Apostle Paul, delve into early church history, and prepare to consider making a personal commitment to Jesus and his Church. Special attention is given to applying what students learn to at home and at school. The class meets in the Youth Room on the lower level of the education wing. Teachers for 2015-2016 are once again Michelle Hoffner and Crystal Soentgen.

For students ages 12-16, the year-long confirmation journey pairs each students with a mentor. Together they engage in Bible study, learn about the history of the church, the United Church of Christ, and our congregation, expand their knowledge of Judaism and Islam, and concentrate on what being an active disciple of Jesus means for them.  Students have an opportunity to make a commitment to life-long discipleship and to church membership.  Our pastor, Rev. Dr. Bill Lyons coordinates this program.
